Harry Potter and the Cursed Child [#books #review]

by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany & Jack Thorne

[Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape] were great men, with huge flaws, and you know what - those flaws almost made them greater.
Harry Potter
(Pagina 329)

I think this book is beautiful! In all honesty I can't deny that if it wasn't the new Harry Potter after all this time I probably would have liked it less. But I also cannot deny the fact that it was very much exciting anyway! And the more I read it the more I wanted to see the play it a theatre, for the settings, the special effects, the curiosity to see represented a text which, unlike the former books became movies, was born to be represented on stage! I've got half a mind that, if my contract will be renewed, during Christmas holidays I'm going to London to watch the show XD (and visit again the city, of course!!).

However, the text is not without flaws, some situations are a little forced, others seem to contradict what we know from previous books and perhaps it lacked some twists to which we were used from the seven novels, and also a noteworthy teacher of Defence Against the Dark Arts (if I'm not mistaken, there is not even mentioned the name of the one currently at Hogwarts!) and a better villain. But on the other hand there are the old characters now adults. There are the new ones, their children. There is the strong link with the other books (especially the 4th but also the 7th with the battle of Hogwarts) and some of the old villains, all things that I personally very much appreciated. And then I liked very very much as Rowling & Co. have shifted the focus on someone who I never imagined (Scorpius Malfoy)!

In short, despite its flaws IMO this sure deserves 5 stars! :)

Quotes

A busy and crowded station, full of people trying to go somewhere. Amongst the hustle and bustle, two large cages rattle on top of two laden trolleys. They're being pushed by two boys, James Potter and Albus Potter. Their mother, Ginny, follows after. A thirty-seven-year-old-man, Harry, has his daughter Lily on his shoulders.
Albus
Dad. He keeps saying it.
Harry
James, give it a rest.
James
I only said he might be in Slytherin. And he might, so... (off his dad's glare) fine.
[incipit]

And there is a giant whoosh of light. A smash of noise.
And time stops. And then it turns over, thinks a bit, and begin spooling backwards, slow at first . . .
And then it speeds up.
The Time-Turner in action.

Albus Severus, you were named after two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew.
Harry to his son Albus
(Pagina 9)

The lesson even your father sometimes failed to heed is that bravery doesn't forgive stupidity.
Professor McGonagall about Harry
(Pagina 215)

I am - Scorpius the Dreadless. I am - Malfoy the Unanxious.
Scorpius makes irony about himself
(Pagina 225)

Perfection is beyond the reach of humankind, beyond the reach of magic. In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.
Dumbledore
